Creative Arts Workshops for Kids – Non Profit Partner Spotlight

Who is  Creative Arts Workshops for Kids ("CAW")?

What is your mission?
Creative Arts Workshops for Kids is a 27-year-old arts education and youth development nonprofit that improves the lives of under-resourced NYC youth, ages 4 – 24 mostly from Upper Manhattan, through the use of the visual, performing and multimedia arts. CAW serves 5,000 participants annually with after-school, in-school and Saturday workshops and full-time and part-time jobs in the arts, teaching valuable skills while creating profound connections between our young constituents, their art and their communities. Students are never charged for participation in our programs.

What makes your organization so unique in the non-profit space?
CAW has a developed many unique public-private partnerships that enhance the impact of our programs and strengthen our organization.  Consistent with our mission, we maximize the value of our art and education in the community by integrating meaningful themes, such as public health in collaboration with New York Presbyterian Hospital's school-based clinics, social justice with NYC Family Court, restorative justice with Lasting Investments in Neighborhood Connections, and workforce labor with the Doe Fund.

What is your organization up to at the moment & how can CUP Members be involved?
We have just launched our 2013 Summer ArtWorks Youth Employment Program! Each year, our young employees - many gaining their first work experience - blossom into artist apprentices, community activists, team players and leaders, acquiring tangible jobs and developmental skills through the creation of large-scale public art projects that stand as a lifelong record of their transformative experience.

We are delighted to have been matched with a new board member Andrea Chin through CUP and would welcome learning about interested new candidates. CAW offers individual and corporate volunteerism at our free Saturday arts workshops, mural tours throughout the year, unique sponsorship and cause marketing opportunities, and much, much more.

We would also be delighted if you personally join us and extend an open invitation to your membership to our public art unveiling and culminating event for 2013 Summer ArtWorks on August 15th at AXA Equitable Center at 787 Seventh Avenue; our free cocktail reception is from 5 - 7 PM. Meanwhile, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out anytime to Karen (other than next week when she is on vacation next week) or me directly.
