What is your mission? In full partnership with families and communities, Graham Windham strives to make a life-altering difference with children, youth and families affected by abuse, neglect and delinquency by providing each child we serve with a strong foundation for life: a safe, loving, permanent family and the opportunity and preparation to thrive in school and in the world.
What makes your organization so unique in the non-profit space? Graham Windham has pioneered programs for New York City’s children, youth, families and communities since 1806. We currently provide educational and social service programs at 11 community-based sites (in Harlem, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Westchester) for over 4,500 children and their families each year. Services include family foster care, adoption, family support, mental and behavioral health treatment, education, afterschool, and youth development and coaching.
What is your organization up to at the moment & how can CUP Members be involved? We have recently launched our Family Success and Youth Success Graham SLAM initiatives, tailored to advance the two core components of our mission, with public and private support. Graham Windham was also recently chosen as one of ten semifinalists for the New York Community Trust 2014 Nonprofit Excellence Award! We are grateful for the recognition of our people, mission-driven approach and practices and are intent on continuing to build the programming, practices and partnerships needed to achieve our mission with every child and family we serve. We are on our way, but this is challenging work. With lots left to do, we are seeking board members to serve a critical role in carrying out Graham Windham’s vital mission. If you are committed to improving the well-being and futures of the children and families we serve, please call 212-529-6445 Ext. 349 or e-mail AprilS@graham-windham.org.
