Jennifer Minezaki – ELP Spotlight

What is your occupation and how did you come to work in this field?
I am a Director, Communications for Disney Channels Worldwide.  I oversee communication and press relations for Disney XD, including its properties with Marvel and Lucasfilm, and Disney Channel's popular franchise -- Disney Channel Original Movies. While attending USC, I worked on an extensive Communication-focused research study and developed a passion for the field. I have spent my career in entertainment publicity, specializing in television media relations spanning cable, primetime, domestic and international syndication and digital extensions.

What is the biggest challenge of your work?
The biggest challenge is keeping pace with the ever-changing media landscape, but it is also one of the main drivers of creative ideas. It forces us to continue evolving our campaigns to come up with fresh, new approaches to get our messages across to our viewers and other key stakeholders.

What is your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievements in my career have been leading the media relations campaigns for the Disney Channel Original Movie "Teen Beach Movie," which ranks as the #2 movie in cable TV history and the launch of Disney XD's "Star Wars Rebels" --The Walt Disney Company's first creative property to come from its acquisition of Lucasfilm.

What leaders, thinkers or doers do you admire most?
You don't have to look very far in our company for inspiring leaders, both men and women, who are innovative and creative thinkers that always do everything with excellence, but my immediate manager who heads up our Kids Communications division really stands out as one that I admire the most. She is incredibly strategic and inspiring, and is acutely focused on how our work impacts our overall business, which enables us to do the best possible job we can for our company.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Over the next ten years, I plan to continue growing my expertise in my current field of communication while learning more about the inner-workings of our other business units to help broaden my overall skill set. I enjoy managing and mentoring my team and hope to grow into a role that allows me to do that with more people.
How has your participation with the Executive Leadership Program impacted the way you approach your day-to-day role?
Being part of the Executive Leadership Program has allowed me to connect with people in varying industries, giving me a more well-rounded perspective on some of the similar challenges we all face. The kick-off conference, in particular, armed me with a lot of great information and insight that empowered me to come back to my team as a more thoughtful, confident and intentional leader.
