Who is Robin Hood?
Robin Hood is New York’s largest poverty-fighting organization, and since 1988 has focused on finding, funding, and creating programs and schools that generate meaningful results for families in New York’s poorest neighborhoods. Over its 25 year history, Robin Hood has distributed more than $1.25 billion to hundreds of New York City-based soup kitchens, homeless shelters, schools, job training programs, and other vital services that give New York’s neediest citizens the tools they need to build better lives for themselves and their families.
What is your mission?
Our mission is to fight poverty in New York City.
We find, fund and partner with programs that have proven they are an effective remedy to poverty and are a consistent force for good in the lives of New Yorkers in need. We employ a rigorous system of metrics and third-party evaluation to ensure grantee accountability. The board pays all administrative and fundraising costs, so 100% of donations goes directly to helping New Yorkers in need build better lives. We work closely with our grantees to make them more effective, enabling them to assist even more people.
What makes your organization so unique in the non-profit space?
For more than two decades, Robin Hood has carefully identified and supported the most effective poverty-fighting organizations in New York City and provided them with ongoing counsel and capital to increase their impact. We look for organizations that serve the neediest communities and that have the ability to effectively and efficiently deliver what’s required – whether it’s housing, food, education, medical assistance or legal/financial advice.
While our approach is intricate, the end result is simple—we invest in the best. Our unique and rigorous system of metrics helps us compare the value of grants (no matter how different in purpose) and determine how much they will benefit future earning and income.
Our board generously supports all administrative, fundraising and overhead costs, so 100% of donations go directly to helping New Yorkers in need build better lives.
How can CUP Members be involved?
Robin Hood funds more than 200 of the most effective poverty-fighting programs in the five boroughs, and we provide management and technical assistance to help them scale up and grow, including our board placement service. Through this service we identify and place talented individuals who are interested in dedicating their time and skills. Board placement is one of the most important things we do to bring the talents and resources of New Yorkers to solve our city’s greatest challenges.
If you are interested in learning more about board service with a Robin Hood grantee, please submit your resume to email@example.com and we will be in touch with more information.
